The Corinth Canal. The canal was originally conceived in ancient times and actually attemped by the Roman emperor Nero around 67 AD. But the canal wasn't actually started until 1882 and was completed in 1893. It completely cuts off the Peloponnese peninsula from the Greek mainland.
